Body of Missing Delhi University Student Sneha Dnat Found Under Flyover—Family Questions Police Response and Safety Failures
New Delhi – The body of Sneha Dnat, a 19-year-old student from South Tripura studying at Delhi University, was found under the Gita Colony flyover seven days after she went missing, sending shockwaves through her campus and raising serious questions about police action and public safety.
Sneha, who was pursuing a dual degree while working a part-time job, disappeared on July 7th. Despite her family’s desperate campaign and repeated pleas to the authorities, her whereabouts remained unknown until her body was discovered in the Yamuna waters near the Signature Bridge—an area notorious for similar tragedies.
A Promising Life Cut Short
Friends and family describe Sneha as an overachiever with a vibrant personality and no visible signs of depression. However, a brief note found in her room revealed that she had made a conscious decision to end her life, stating she acted under no outside influence.
Unanswered Questions and Public Outrage
The discovery of Sneha’s body has sparked outrage and grief, particularly over the slow response from authorities. Her family alleges that police were sluggish in their investigation and failed to act on time. They also point out that none of the 60 CCTV cameras on Signature Bridge—a hotspot for young people—were functioning, making it impossible to trace her final moments.
“How could this happen in a crowded place like Signature Bridge at 8 a.m. with no witnesses and no camera footage?” asked one family member. “Why did it take six days to find her? Why was her laptop left locked for a week?”
A Call for Accountability
As Sneha’s body undergoes postmortem examination, her family and the student community are demanding accountability from the authorities. Many are calling for immediate repairs to public surveillance systems and better police responsiveness to missing persons cases.
A Tragic Reminder
Sneha’s death is a heartbreaking reminder of the pressures faced by young students and the urgent need for mental health support, as well as stronger public safety measures in India’s capital.
If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out to a mental health professional or helpline.
