“Tragedy in Yavatmal: Four Children Drown in Construction Pit Amidst Monsoon Chaos in Maharashtra”
A heartbreaking tragedy struck Yavatmal district in Maharashtra, where four young children drowned in a water-filled construction pit near the Darwaha railway station. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, has left the local community in shock and raised serious questions about railway safety and accountability.
According to officials, the children—aged between 10 and 14—were playing near the site where a railway flyover is under construction. Heavy monsoon rains had filled a large pit dug for pillar installation, turning it into a deadly trap. It is believed that the children either slipped while playing or failed in their attempt to swim, leading to their tragic deaths. The victims have been identified as Rihan, Aslam Khan, Golu Pandurang Narnavare, Soumya, Satish Khatsan, Vaibhav, and Ashish Bothle.
The aftermath of the accident has cast a pall of grief over the area. Police have launched an investigation, and the administration is probing the construction company for negligence. This incident is yet another reminder of the dangers posed by unattended construction sites, especially during the monsoon season.
Meanwhile, Mumbai continues to reel under relentless rainfall, causing chaos across the city. On Tuesday evening, a monorail packed with over 780 passengers was stranded due to a sudden power outage. With air conditioning shut off, many passengers complained of suffocation, and some even fainted. Fortunately, only one passenger required hospitalization and is now stable.
The state has witnessed more than six deaths related to rain and flooding in the past 24 hours. In Nanded district, five people are reported missing due to flood-like conditions. Rescue operations are in full swing, with 18 NDRF teams and six SDRF teams deployed across Maharashtra.
In Nashik and surrounding areas, torrential rains have caused dams and rivers to overflow, submerging low-lying neighborhoods. The Gangapur dam released excess water into the Godavari River, increasing its flow and flooding small temples in Ramkund and Godaghat.
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Raigad, Thane, and Palghar districts, warning residents to remain cautious. For five consecutive days, Mumbai has been battered by rain, disrupting daily life and endangering lives.
Authorities urge citizens to stay vigilant, especially when venturing out with children. Always check weather updates before leaving home to ensure safety during these perilous times.
