A dramatic rescue unfolded in Karnataka’s Yadgir district after a man was allegedly pushed into the fast-flowing Krishna River by his wife while taking a selfie on a bridge. A video of the incident has since gone viral, capturing the tense moments as bystanders rushed to save him.

According to reports, the couple had stopped on the Gurjapur Bridge in Vadagera Taluk while traveling on their motorcycle. They decided to take a selfie, during which the wife allegedly pushed her husband into the river. The woman later tried to mislead their family, claiming that her husband had slipped and fallen into the water.

Fortunately, the man managed to grab onto a rock amid the strong current and began shouting for help. His cries were heard by locals, who quickly gathered on the bridge. In the video, people can be seen tying a rope to the bridge railing and making every effort to rescue him. The woman is also seen on the bridge, insisting that her husband had slipped while they were taking photos and that she did not push him.

The rescued man, identified as Tatappa from the MCC Labour Colony in Shakti Nagar, told police that his wife, Gadyamma of Devara Gaddi village in Raichur district, had intentionally tried to kill him. The couple had married on April 18, 2025. Tatappa said he had gone to bring his wife back from her parental home after the Muharram holiday. On their return, Gadyamma asked to stop at the Gurjapur Barrage Bridge to take selfies. She took his mobile phone and asked him to stand facing the river for a photo. Trusting her, Tatappa complied, only to be suddenly pushed into the water.

Despite being swept away by the current, Tatappa managed to hold onto a rock and shouted for help. Passersby stopped their vehicles and, with the help of a rope, managed to pull him to safety. He claimed that his wife made no attempt to save him, reinforcing his suspicion that she wanted to kill him.

After the rescue, the bystanders took both Tatappa and his wife back to their home. Tatappa has now decided to leave his wife’s village, convinced that she does not wish to live with him and harbors intentions to harm him.

Police are investigating the incident further. The shocking story has left the local community stunned.
