Fake Currency Racket Busted in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh; Six Arrested with ₹1.8 Million in Counterfeit Note
Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh – Police have uncovered a major counterfeit currency racket operating out of a residential area in Jabalpur. The gang was producing fake notes at home and distributing them across nearby districts. In a major breakthrough, police arrested six members of the syndicate and seized counterfeit notes worth ₹1.8 million.
The Operation
According to City Superintendent of Police Sunil Nema, the breakthrough came on June 16 when Station In-Charge Dheeraj Raj received a tip-off that a youth named Ravi Dahiya was standing near a cemetery with fake currency. Acting swiftly, the police raided the spot and caught Ravi with ₹294,000 in counterfeit notes.
Upon interrogation, Ravi revealed details about a larger network. The next day, June 17, police arrested the main accused, Rituraj Vishwakarma, from a rented house in Yashwant Nagar, Adhartal. At the location, police found a complete setup for printing fake notes. Rituraj, 36, is a resident of Kamti Imliya village in Narsinghpur district and confessed to running the operation for the past 8-9 months.
Modus Operandi
Rituraj disclosed that he exchanged fake notes with real ones at a 1:3 ratio—one real note for three counterfeit notes. His accomplices included Dheeraj Manmani, Gaurav Tiwari, Santosh Srivastava, Ajay Naveria, and Satyam Patel.
Rituraj supplied ₹1.25 million in fake notes to Santosh Srivastava and Ajay Naveria from Mandla, receiving ₹400,000 in real currency in return. He also gave ₹300,000 in counterfeit notes to Jamuna Prasad Patel from Shahpur. During the investigation, police recovered ₹900,000 in fake notes from Ajay Naveria and another ₹300,000 from Jamuna Prasad.
Tools and Techniques
Police seized a color printer, laptop, special paper, colored inks, and cutters from Rituraj’s house. He admitted to designing the notes using Paint app and Wikipedia references on his laptop before printing them. The gang then distributed the fake currency in districts such as Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, and Mandla.
Ongoing Investigation
Superintendent Sunil Nema stated that the police are now investigating how long the gang had been operating and the extent of their distribution network. The group used a special type of paper to make the fake notes resemble real currency and avoid suspicion. All accused are currently in custody, and further questioning is underway.
Police are probing every angle of the case to ensure all parties involved are brought to justice.
