One video from Haridwar captures it all—a man accused of “defiling” the sacred water is surrounded, his car destroyed, his body battered with sticks. Miraculously, he breaks free, grabs a police baton, and fights back against his attackers. The internet explodes: some hail him as a hero, others warn that violence only breeds more violence. But this was just the beginning.

No One Is Safe

On July 16, another video stuns the country—this time, kawadiyas are seen mercilessly beating police right on the public road. In Uttar Pradesh, a CRPF jawan is assaulted at a railway station, his only fault: waiting for a train in uniform. The question echoes across the nation: if the police and army are not safe, who is?

Where Is the Law?

Despite a massive security operation—thousands of CCTV cameras, drones, and over 60,000 police officers—the violence rages on. Why are the authorities failing to control the mayhem? Would such lawlessness be tolerated if it happened during any other religious festival?

Political leaders are quick to react. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath blames a conspiracy to defame the yatra, claiming critics are insulting Indian culture. But even his own party is divided. BJP leader Nutan Dubey drops a bombshell, exposing rampant corruption in UP: “Nothing gets done without bribes, not even in government hospitals.” Her words send shockwaves through the political landscape, calling into question every claim of a “corruption-free” state.

The Kawad Yatra has always been a celebration of faith. Each year, devotees walk for days, carrying Ganga water to offer to Shiva. This year, an estimated 50 million kawadiyas are on the road. But now, the pilgrimage is overshadowed by images of violence and lawlessness.

The government has imposed new rules: bans on sticks, tridents, and loud motorcycles; 29,000 CCTV cameras; 395 drones; 60,000 police on duty. But on the ground, the violence continues. Is enforcement just for show?
