A Royal Setback

Saif Ali Khan, often called Bollywood’s “actor prince,” has suffered a massive setback as the Madhya Pradesh High Court ruled that the properties once owned by his royal family are now classified as enemy property. This decision comes after years of legal battles and family disputes.

Originally, the court had sided with Saif’s grandmother, Sajjida Sultan. However, other heirs from the family challenged this verdict, arguing that the property should be divided according to the Muslim Personal Law of 1937. The case took a dramatic turn when the High Court overturned its earlier decision and declared the properties as enemy property.

What Is Enemy Property?

Under India’s Enemy Property Act, if someone left India for Pakistan after partition and became a Pakistani citizen, their property in India can be taken over by the Indian government. In this case, Sajjida Sultan’s sister moved to Pakistan, and the court ruled that these properties fall under the Enemy Property Act.

Saif Ali Khan had managed to get a stay on the court’s decision in 2015, but that protection was removed in December 2024. The court then gave Saif and his family 30 days to make a claim—but no claim was submitted in time.

Now, the Bhopal district administration has the legal right to seize the properties, marking the end of an era for one of India’s most illustrious royal families.

Saif’s Heartfelt Reaction

Reacting to this devastating loss, Saif Ali Khan said:

“It’s impossible to put a value to it in monetary terms because, emotionally, the property is priceless. My grandparents and my father are buried there. There’s a sense of security, serenity, and a spiritual connection for me. The land itself is several centuries old, and the palace my grandfather built for my grandmother is about 100 years old.”

He added, “This isn’t just about money. These properties are deeply tied to the legacy of the Pataudi and Bhopal royal families. Times have changed since India abolished royal titles and privileges. That’s why my father decided to lease out the palace. But the loss is still deeply personal.”

The End of a Royal Era

For Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan, this is not just a financial loss—it’s the loss of a priceless heritage, a piece of history, and countless cherished memories. The court may have simply followed the law, but the emotional blow to the family is immeasurable.

As the Bhopal district administration prepares to take over the properties, the nation watches with heavy hearts, witnessing the end of a remarkable royal legacy.
