Jaya Bachchan Confronts Man for Attempting Selfie Without Consent in Delhi

Veteran actor and politician Jaya Bachchan was recently captured on camera scolding and pushing away a man who attempted to take a selfie with her without her consent. The incident occurred on Tuesday outside Delhi’s Constitution Club, where elections were taking place. Bachchan was engaged in conversation with another person when the man leaned in for a selfie, startling and agitating her. Visibly upset, the 77-year-old Member of Parliament pushed the man away and questioned his conduct, asking, “What is this?”

The Constitution Club has both former and current members of parliament among its members. MPs Misa Bharti (Rashtriya Janata Dal) and Priyanka Chaturvedi (Shiv Sena) were also present during the incident, and could be seen in the viral video. Despite Bachchan’s reaction, the man managed a smile before exiting the frame.

Jaya Bachchan, known for her blunt responses, has often faced trolling for her candid reactions to both fans and the media. Addressing criticism regarding her temperament, she remarked, “If people are going to earn their living by uploading all my angry speeches to YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter, I give a damn. You can say I’m a bad actor, a bad parliamentarian, but you have no right to judge my personal character. I only react when someone intrudes on my personal space. When I’m engaged in a conversation and someone tries to take my picture, why am I not considered a human being?”

During a related session in parliament, Bachchan was interrupted by members on the treasury benches. She pushed back, saying, “Either you speak or I will speak. When a woman speaks, I never interrupt. So please mind your tongue.” As tensions rose in the house, Priyanka Chaturvedi attempted to calm Bachchan.

The incident has reignited discussions about the boundaries of public figures’ personal space and respect for privacy, even in public settings.
