Terrifying Mob Attack in Bihar’s Bettiah: Family Pleads for Justice Amid Police Inaction

A shocking incident from Bettiah, Bihar, has once again highlighted the growing lawlessness and lack of police action in the state. A violent land dispute in the Kalibagh police station area, Chikpatti, escalated into a brutal mob attack, leaving a family traumatized and questioning their safety.

According to reports, the dispute turned so violent that around 40 to 50 people stormed a house, attempting to break down the door with kicks. When that failed, they began hurling bricks, stones, and whatever they could find, turning them into weapons against the family inside. The mob’s rage was so intense that it seemed as if they would not stop until they had taken lives.

Victims Tell Their Story

The owner of the house, who was at his shop during the attack, recounted how his wife called him in panic, saying that a group was pelting stones, breaking windows and doors, and trying to force their way inside. The attackers also destroyed security cameras to avoid being caught on video, but his wife managed to record some of the chaos secretly.

The main accused, Mukesh Kumar alias Munna, a resident of Sonarpatti Ward No. 7/8, and his three sons—Harshvardhan, Rishabh Raj, and Yashraj—were allegedly leading the assault. The victim lamented that despite filing an FIR, no arrests had been made, and repeated calls to the police went unanswered or were met with empty promises.

Repeated Attacks and Fear for Safety

The family revealed that this was not the first attack—they had been assaulted five times before. The police, despite being informed multiple times, took no concrete action. The victim’s wife shared how, during the attack, women from the mob tried to snatch her child from the bed, and the family had to fight desperately to protect their children and themselves.

The house was left in ruins, with broken doors, shattered windows, and scattered belongings. Injuries were reported among the family, including the husband, his brother, and sister-in-law. Small children were caught in the chaos, and the family now lives in constant fear for their lives.

Police Inaction and Public Outcry

Even after the FIR was filed, the police failed to arrest the accused. The family repeatedly visited the police station and called the investigating officer, but received only assurances. The lack of action has left them feeling helpless and exposed to further violence.

The incident, caught on video and circulated on social media, has raised serious questions about the effectiveness of Bihar Police. Despite the family’s pleas for help before and after the attack, the police arrived late and did little to prevent or address the violence.

A Widespread Problem in Bihar

This incident is not isolated. Bihar has been witnessing a surge in violent crimes, especially related to land disputes and personal rivalries. The lack of prompt police action often emboldens criminals and leaves victims vulnerable. In many cases, even after FIRs are filed, arrests are delayed or do not happen at all.

A Call for Justice and Security

The victim’s family is now demanding not just justice, but also protection. They fear that the attackers could strike again at any time, potentially resulting in greater tragedy. The broader public is left questioning when the Bihar Police will wake up to their responsibilities and provide the security that citizens desperately need.

Until there is strong and timely action from law enforcement, such violent incidents and tragedies are likely to continue, making justice and safety seem like distant dreams for many families in Bihar.
