Shilpa Shetty brokedown after Arrested & Dragged by Mumbai Police for fraud with Raj Kundra!

In a new controversy shaking Bollywood and the Indian business community, actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra, have been accused of a massive financial fraud amounting to approximately ₹7 crore. The complaint was filed by Mumbai-based businessman Deepak Pujari, who alleges that the couple took the money over the course of several years under the pretext of business expansion, only to misuse the funds and default on repayment promises. While such controversies are not new to Raj Kundra—who was previously embroiled in a high-profile pornography case—this incident adds another layer to the ongoing scrutiny of celebrity-business partnerships in India.

According to Deepak Pujari’s detailed allegations, the monetary transactions began in 2015 and continued through 2023. He claims that the first installment of about ₹31.95 crore was transferred in 2015 itself. Over the next few months, between July 2015 and March 2016, he transferred an additional ₹28.54 crore. Apart from this, he claims to have paid a stamp duty amounting to ₹3.19 lakh as part of the business dealings. These were not mere friendly loans but substantial investments made with the expectation of clear returns and agreed-upon timelines.

Pujari maintains that the entire process was presented to him as a professional business collaboration. He was assured multiple times by both Raj and Shilpa that his money was being used for legitimate purposes and that he would receive appropriate returns. Furthermore, in April 2016, Shilpa Shetty reportedly gave a personal guarantee—a gesture that added a sense of security and trust to the transaction. However, a few months later, she resigned from the directorship of the company involved, raising serious questions about the timing and intent of her actions.

It was shortly after her resignation that the company allegedly defaulted on payments and an insolvency case of ₹1.28 crore was filed against it. According to Pujari, he was never informed of this insolvency case, and it further deepened his suspicions about the transparency of the entire operation. He states that repeated attempts to recover his money were met with silence or avoidance, and that neither Shilpa nor Raj responded adequately to his concerns. This prolonged lack of communication and accountability eventually pushed him to take legal action.

Initially, the complaint was registered at the Juhu Police Station in Mumbai. However, given the complexity and scale of the financial transactions involved, the case has now been handed over to the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW), a specialized division that deals with high-profile financial crimes. The EOW is currently investigating the matter, and it remains to be seen whether formal charges will be filed.

What has further intensified the public and media interest in the case is the alleged audio recording of a phone call between Raj Kundra and Deepak Pujari, which has gone viral on social media. In the audio clip, the two men are reportedly heard discussing the financial dealings in question. While the authenticity of the clip has not been officially verified, it has stirred significant speculation, with many interpreting it as damning evidence against Kundra.

In response to the allegations, both Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra have strongly denied any wrongdoing. Their legal representatives have issued statements calling the allegations “baseless” and “motivated.” Shilpa, in particular, has emphasized that she had no active role in the company after her resignation and therefore cannot be held liable for any of its business operations. Raj, on the other hand, has remained relatively silent in public, although he is believed to be cooperating with the authorities during the investigation.

This is not the first time Raj Kundra has found himself in legal trouble. In 2021, he was arrested in connection with a case involving the production and distribution of adult content via mobile apps. The arrest made national headlines, and although he was later released on bail, the incident severely impacted his public image and business credibility. With this latest accusation, the shadow over his financial dealings has only deepened.

As for Shilpa Shetty, the situation is particularly delicate. She has always cultivated an image of a fitness icon, successful entrepreneur, and family woman. Her involvement, even peripherally, in such financial controversies threatens to tarnish that image. Although she has not been arrested or formally charged, her name being associated with a fraud case of this magnitude inevitably causes reputational damage.

The larger implications of this case raise important questions about the increasing trend of celebrity-business partnerships in India. Over the last decade, numerous Bollywood actors have ventured into startups, wellness brands, tech companies, and even cryptocurrency ventures. While this shift reflects a diversification of careers and financial portfolios, it also opens the door to greater financial risk—both for the celebrities involved and their investors. In the case of Shilpa and Raj, it appears that the lines between personal brand value and business accountability may have been dangerously blurred.

Furthermore, the case sheds light on the vulnerability of individual investors, even seasoned businessmen like Deepak Pujari. Despite transferring crores of rupees and securing personal assurances, Pujari finds himself entangled in a complex legal and financial mess, struggling to retrieve his money. It raises concerns about the due diligence followed in such deals and whether personal connections or celebrity status overly influence investment decisions.

This incident also exposes the limitations of existing financial regulation and enforcement in India. While organizations like the EOW are tasked with investigating financial fraud, such cases often drag on for years, with little relief for the complainants. The legal and judicial system must be equipped to handle high-profile financial crimes swiftly and transparently to maintain investor confidence and deter future misconduct.

In the court of public opinion, reactions are sharply divided. Some believe that Pujari may have invested at his own risk and is now trying to recover losses by using the couple’s celebrity status to pressure them. Others argue that the scale of the transactions and the alleged evidence point toward deliberate deception. The truth, as always, will lie in the evidence, the paper trail, and the outcomes of a thorough legal investigation.

As the case unfolds, it will not only determine the future legal consequences for Raj Kundra and possibly Shilpa Shetty but also serve as a cautionary tale for other celebrities and investors alike. Trust, transparency, and timely communication are foundational to any business relationship. When these elements are absent—even if celebrities are involved—the outcome can be catastrophic.

Until the authorities conclude their investigation, the public must reserve judgment. However, it is clear that the glamorous façade of Bollywood often hides intricate financial entanglements, and the line between fame and fraud can sometimes be razor-thin. Whether Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra are ultimately exonerated or found culpable, this case will likely leave a lasting impact on the way celebrity-driven businesses are viewed and scrutinized in India.
