K.R. Mangalam University provides a platform to turn your dreams into reality, giving wings to your aspirations. But for Captain Sumit Sabharwal, the skies he so often conquered became the scene of his final journey.

Questions still linger: What were Captain Sabharwal’s last words to his crew? What technical fault occurred in the aircraft? And now, who will care for his elderly father? The truth is, Captain Sumit Sabharwal will never return.

Captain Sumit Sabharwal was a highly experienced pilot, having logged over 8,200 hours of flying time. He was considered one of Air India’s finest and most professional pilots. No one could have predicted that one routine flight would become his last. The tragedy unfolded so swiftly that there was no time for anyone to react.

He had safely flown countless passengers to their destinations and spent many hours soaring across international skies. But beyond the cockpit, he was also a devoted son, caring for his 90-year-old father, with whom he lived in the Powai area of Mumbai. Whenever he left for a flight, he would ask his neighbors to look after his father.

Captain Sabharwal was just months away from early retirement. He had planned to spend more time with his father after leaving his job. Two years ago, his mother passed away, leaving his elderly father alone. Due to his demanding flight schedule, Sumit couldn’t spend as much time with his father as he wished. This was why he had decided to leave his job and dedicate himself to caring for his father.

Tragically, the Ahmedabad plane crash changed everything. Captain Sabharwal lived in the Jalvayu Vihar sector of Powai with his 88-year-old father, Pushparaj Sabharwal. After the accident, local MLA Dilip Lande visited the family to offer condolences. The responsibility of caring for his father had fallen solely on Sumit after his mother’s passing, and he was preparing to leave his job for this reason.

Reports indicate that on June 12, just before his final flight, Captain Sumit spoke to his father and promised to call him upon reaching London. Fate, however, had other plans. The news of the crash shattered the family, and relatives have been gathering at their home to support the grieving father.

Captain Sabharwal’s dream of spending his retirement with his father remains unfulfilled. The tragedy has upended the life of his elderly parent, who must now face the future alone.
