President Droupadi Murmu Pays Last Respects to Shibu Soren at Delhi Hospital

In a solemn display of tribute, President Droupadi Murmu visited Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi to pay her final respects to veteran Jharkhand leader and tribal icon, Shibu Soren, following his demise. The President offered condolences to Chief Minister Hemant Soren and other grieving family members at the hospital.

Earlier this morning, Chief Minister Hemant Soren had shared the news of his father’s passing on social media, expressing his profound loss and describing the demise as a moment of emptiness for the family and the state. Shortly afterward, President Murmu tweeted her condolences, emphasizing Shibu Soren’s lifelong efforts for tribal identity and the creation of Jharkhand as a separate state. “Beyond his grassroots work, Shibu Soren contributed as Chief Minister, Union Minister, and Member of Parliament. His focus on the welfare of tribal communities will always be remembered. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his son, Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the rest of the family, and all admirers,” she wrote.

Shibu Soren, a founding leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and a prominent advocate for tribal rights, passed away at the age of 81 following a prolonged illness at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. He had been undergoing treatment for over a month and was placed on a ventilator in his final weeks. The Jharkhand government has declared three days of state mourning, during which all government offices will remain closed on August 4 and 5, and the national flag will be flown at half-mast.

His mortal remains are to be brought to Ranchi by late evening and will first be placed at the Chief Minister’s Morabadi residence. On the following morning, the body will be taken to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha party office where party members and supporters will pay their respects, and then to the Jharkhand Assembly for state honors. The final rites will be held with full state honors in his ancestral village, Nemra.

Condolences have poured in from national leaders across the political spectrum, reflecting the immense impact Soren had on Jharkhand’s identity and the lives of its people.
