Heartbreaking Tragedy in UP’s Sonbhadra: Toddler Dies After Falling Into Boiling Pot—Family Suffers Second Such Loss in Two Years
A devastating incident has shaken the people of Sonbhadra district in Uttar Pradesh. In the Dudhi Kotwali area, a one-and-a-half-year-old girl named Priya lost her life after falling into a pot of boiling chole (chickpeas) on June 27. The tragic accident occurred while her mother was cooking on the gas stove and had briefly stepped outside for some work. During this brief moment, little Priya, playing nearby, wandered into the kitchen and accidentally fell into the scalding pot.

The family, residents of Jhansi, was left shattered by the horrific accident. Priya suffered severe burns and was immediately rushed to the Dudhi Community Health Center. Doctors found that she had sustained burns over nearly 80% of her body. Given her critical condition, Priya was referred to the district hospital, where a team of doctors fought for hours to save her. Tragically, despite their best efforts, Priya succumbed to her injuries due to the severity of the burns.
The news of Priya’s death plunged her home into deep mourning. Her parents were inconsolable, with her mother repeatedly fainting from grief. The father, Shailendra, described the day as one of unimaginable loss, revealing a haunting detail: exactly two years ago, on the very same date, the couple lost their elder daughter in a strikingly similar accident. Their first daughter died after falling into boiling dal (lentil soup), leaving the family to relive their worst nightmare all over again.
“I cannot express what I am going through. Both my daughters are gone. Today, I buried my little girl with my own hands,” Shailendra said, his voice breaking with emotion.
The tragedy has deeply affected the entire village, with neighbors and relatives gathering to offer their condolences and support. However, words have proven inadequate in the face of such unbearable pain.
