UP News: Elderly Man Arrested After Molesting Young Woman, Viral Video Sparks Swift Police Action

A shocking incident from Uttar Pradesh has gripped social media after a video surfaced showing an elderly man inappropriately touching a young woman on a public street. The disturbing footage, which quickly went viral, clearly captured the man misbehaving with the woman, touching her inappropriately on her hip before attempting to flee. The woman bravely chased after him, and the incident was widely condemned online.

Despite no initial formal complaint being filed at the local Thana Khala police station, authorities took immediate suo moto cognizance of the viral video. Leveraging footage from nearly 50 CCTV cameras, the police meticulously tracked down the suspect. The man was identified as Riyaz, son of Noor Mohammad, a resident of Pan Mandi under the jurisdiction of Kotwali Nagar police station.

Riyaz was arrested by Khala police and, during interrogation, confessed to his actions. He also admitted to having committed similar offenses in the past, none of which had been reported to the authorities. This time, however, the viral video and prompt police response ensured he could not escape justice.

The police have booked Riyaz under Section 170 of the Indian Penal Code and are making efforts to ensure he is sent to jail. According to officials, Riyaz is approximately 50–55 years old and has a history of such incidents.

The swift action by Khala police has been widely praised, with many calling it a necessary step to ensure the safety and dignity of women in public spaces. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and the power of social media in bringing such crimes to light.
