Recently, a Yadav community storyteller was subjected to humiliation when villagers, upon discovering his caste, forcibly shaved his head, made him undergo a “purification” ritual using the urine of a Brahmin woman, and forced him to apologize by touching his nose to the ground. Nidhi, a resident, expressed her shock: “What happened with the urine purification was completely wrong. If someone knows how to conduct a religious discourse, their caste should not matter. The discrimination and humiliation are inexcusable.”

Neelam Gupta said, “Wisdom is what makes someone a Brahmin, not their birth. If a Dalit has the knowledge to conduct a discourse, he is as much a Brahmin as anyone else. The act of purification with urine is shameful and must be condemned.”

Another woman, Rekha, added, “There should be no restriction on sharing knowledge. What happened to the storyteller was humiliating and wrong. Purification should be done with holy water, not urine.”
