Tragic De@th of Newlywed Sadhana in Delhi Raises Alarming Questions About Domestic Violence
A sense of shock and grief has enveloped Delhi’s Sunlight Colony after the tragic death of 20-year-old Sadhana, who was found hanging in a small, locked room in Siddharth Basti’s IG Camp. Married just a year and a half ago, Sadhana’s death has become a focal point in the fight against domestic violence and dowry harassment.
The police were alerted when Sadhana’s lifeless body was discovered and immediately sealed the crime scene, calling in the crime team and alerting the SDM of Defence Colony, as the death occurred within seven years of marriage. A further twist in the case was revealed when investigators found a heart-wrenching video Sadhana recorded just before her death. In this video, she accuses her husband of repeated physical abuse, stating that he would torture her every day. Sadhana spoke about the regular fights, the insults she faced from her in-laws, and her regret over not listening to her family when they warned her before her love marriage.
Sadhana’s mother and brother have given their statements to the authorities, recounting the pain and suspicion they harbored over Sadhana’s suffering. Her mother revealed that Sadhana had been facing violence not just from her husband, Yogesh, but also from other members of her husband’s family. Matters of dowry were raised often, with continuous pressure and demands despite the family already providing significant gifts and money at the time of marriage.
The family said the last conversation with Sadhana was just a day before her death, during which Sadhana sounded subdued but did not let on the full extent of her distress. Her mother recalled Sadhana’s “goodbye” as she was leaving for work, not realizing it would be their last conversation.
The case has cast a harsh spotlight on the plight faced by young women in abusive marriages, especially those related to dowry harassment. With Sadhana’s chilling final words caught on video, the police have zeroed in on her husband as a primary suspect and are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances of her death. The community is left mourning another life cut short by domestic violence, and questions are being asked about how many more must suffer before change is enacted.
For now, the authorities are closely examining every aspect of the tragedy to deliver justice for Sadhana and, hopefully, prevent similar incidents in the future.
