Eight Killed, Including Groom, as Speeding Car Crashes Into College Wall in Sambhal

A wedding celebration in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district turned into tragedy on Sunday evening when a speeding Bolero Neo carrying members of a wedding party lost control and smashed into the wall of a college. Eight people, including the groom, were killed and several others were injured in the horrific accident.

The Accident

The crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. near Janata Inter College in the Junabayi area, about 400 meters from the local police station. Witnesses reported that the car was traveling at an extremely high speed as it tried to catch up with the rest of the wedding convoy.
Driver negligence is believed to be the primary cause. “The driver lost control of the vehicle, it overturned and rammed into the college wall with a deafening sound,” said Raju, a local resident who witnessed the incident.

The impact was so severe that the car became wedged into the wall, making it impossible for bystanders to pull out the passengers.

Rescue Operations

Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Bishnoi, who rushed to the scene, said the police used a JCB machine to pull the mangled vehicle away from the wall. Rescuers then cut open the doors to extract victims.
“Five people were already dead on the spot, and others were screaming for help,” SP Bishnoi said. “We immediately sent the injured to the nearest Community Health Center and later referred them to Aligarh for advanced treatment.”

Wedding Turns to Mourning

The victims were residents of Hargovindpur village. The groom, 20‑year‑old Surajpal, was among those killed. The wedding procession had left the village at around 6:30 p.m. in 11 vehicles, heading to Sirsaul in Budaun district—about 50 kilometers away.
However, due to rituals and preparations, the groom’s car departed late. In an attempt to catch up with the others, the driver increased speed, leading to the fatal crash just 700 meters down the road.

Casualties and Criticism

In total, eight people lost their lives—five at the scene and three later at the hospital. A young girl, about three years old, survived with minor injuries, while one person remains in critical condition.
Villagers expressed anger, saying that a delay of around 40 minutes between the accident and proper medical treatment might have cost additional lives. “If they had received treatment sooner, more people could have been saved,” a local said.

Official Statement

SP Bishnoi confirmed ongoing legal procedures and coordination with Aligarh authorities to ensure the best medical care for the survivors. “It appears to be a clear case of driver negligence,” he said.

What was meant to be a joyous wedding journey has instead left two villages in mourning—a tragic reminder of the dangers of overspeeding and reckless driving.
