PM Modi Receives Ghana’s Highest Honor, Strengthening India’s Global Stature

In a week marked by major international developments, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Africa has captured the world’s attention. While global leaders like Xi Jinping, Donald Trump, and Pakistan’s General Munir face domestic and international challenges, Modi’s leadership and India’s growing influence are being recognized on the world stage.

During his recent tour, Prime Minister Modi was awarded Ghana’s highest civilian honor, the “Order of the Star of Ghana,” by President Nana Akufo-Addo. This recognition follows a series of similar honors from countries like Cyprus, UAE, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, making Modi the most internationally decorated Indian prime minister in history. In just 11 years, Modi has received 24 global awards, compared to only two each for previous leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Manmohan Singh.

The Ghanaian honor was bestowed in recognition of Modi’s leadership and his significant impact on global affairs. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that the award reflects not just Modi’s personal achievements, but the growing stature of India on the world stage.

In his acceptance speech, Modi expressed deep gratitude and dedicated the award to India’s 1.4 billion citizens. “For us, democracy is not just a system, but a part of our culture and heritage,” he said while addressing Ghana’s parliament. His speech left a strong impression, especially when he shared that India is home to over 2,500 political parties and 22 official languages, showcasing the diversity and vibrancy of the world’s largest democracy.

Modi’s visit also resulted in significant bilateral deals between India and Ghana, a move seen as a setback for China’s strategic ambitions in Africa. Under Modi’s leadership, trade between India and Ghana has increased by 160%, and India’s exports to Ghana have nearly doubled. The prime minister’s diplomatic approach focuses not only on building strong ties with developed nations but also on supporting developing and underdeveloped countries.

The global appeal of Modi’s leadership was evident when members of Ghana’s parliament lined up to shake hands with him after his address. Modi has now addressed foreign parliaments 15 times, more than any other Indian prime minister.

As India’s economy continues its upward trajectory and the country’s military gains global respect, Modi’s foreign policy has elevated India’s reputation worldwide. While other leaders face criticism and challenges at home, Modi’s popularity and India’s growing influence are being celebrated across continents.
