Wife Pushes Husband into River While Taking a Selfie, Locals Rescue Him in Karnataka

A shocking incident has surfaced from Karnataka’s Yadgir district, where a woman allegedly tried to kill her husband by pushing him into a river while taking a selfie on a bridge. The entire rescue operation was captured on video and is currently going viral on social media, leaving netizens stunned at the shocking betrayal.

In the video, a man can be seen stranded on a rock in the middle of a fast-flowing river, desperately pleading for help to save his life. Hearing his cries, several people gathered on the bridge above and tried every possible way to rescue him. They tied a rope to the bridge railing and lowered it down to pull him back to safety.

According to media reports, the shocking incident took place on Gurjapur Bridge in the Vadagera taluk area of Yadgir district. The man, identified as Tatappa, had gone to bring his wife back from her parental home after the Muharram holidays on July 11, 2025. Tatappa lives in the MCC Labour Colony of Shakti Nagar, while his wife, Gadyamma, is originally from Devra Gaddi village in Raichur district.

The couple got married on April 18, 2025. On their way back home, Gadyamma asked her husband to stop on the bridge so they could take some selfies. As per Tatappa’s statement to the police, his wife took his phone and asked him to stand at the edge of the bridge, facing the river, so she could click his picture from behind. Trusting her completely, Tatappa stood as instructed, not expecting that she would betray him in such a cruel manner.

However, to his utter shock, Gadyamma suddenly pushed him into the river from behind. “She tried to kill me by pushing me into the river all of a sudden,” he said. As he was swept away by the strong current, he somehow managed to grab onto a rock in the middle of the river and started screaming for help as loudly as he could.

Hearing his desperate cries, local villagers, passersby, and commuters on the bridge stopped their vehicles to assess the situation. Some people on bikes and a group traveling in a Bolero pick-up truck gathered at the spot. They quickly tied a rope to the bridge railing and threw it down to him. With great difficulty, they pulled Tatappa out of the river, saving him from certain death.

In the viral video, the woman can be seen standing on the bridge, explaining her side of the story to the onlookers. She claimed she did not push him intentionally. “We were just taking photos. He slipped and fell into the river,” she said, trying to convince everyone that it was merely an accident.

However, after his rescue, Tatappa accused his wife of attempting to murder him. He told the police that despite seeing him struggling in the river, she made no attempt to save him, which made it very clear to him that she deliberately tried to kill him.

“I was shouting and crying for help while she just stood there, doing nothing. If she really cared, she would have panicked and tried to save me. Instead, she calmly stood and kept lying to everyone that I slipped on my own,” he told the media.

The locals who saved him later dropped both him and his wife back at their house. But Tatappa has now decided not to live with her anymore, as he fears for his life.

“This incident made me realise that my wife does not want to live with me. She wants to kill me. Therefore, I have decided to leave her at her parental village and never take her back,” he said, with deep pain in his voice.

The police have registered the husband’s complaint and are currently investigating the matter to verify his claims. If proven guilty, Gadyamma could face serious charges for attempted murder and domestic violence.

The video has sparked a wave of anger and shock across social media platforms. People are condemning the wife’s alleged cruel act, calling it an unthinkable betrayal from someone who vowed to share her husband’s life with love and care. Some viewers are also praising the locals who bravely rescued Tatappa without a second thought, preventing what could have turned into a tragic death.

Incidents like these raise serious questions about trust in relationships and how underlying issues can sometimes result in extreme and violent actions. Marriage, which is supposed to be a bond of companionship, turns toxic when there is lack of communication, understanding, and respect for each other’s lives.

Experts say that while domestic violence is often reported in the form of physical, verbal, and psychological abuse, attempted murder by spouses is a rare but deeply disturbing occurrence. They advise couples to seek counselling when facing severe conflicts or toxic situations, rather than allowing the anger or hatred to escalate into violence.

Meanwhile, locals in Yadgir remain shaken by this shocking event, as they recall how close the man came to dying that day. “If he had not managed to grab that rock, we would have only seen his dead body floating later,” said one of the villagers who participated in his rescue.

Police authorities have appealed to the public not to spread unverified claims regarding the couple’s relationship until the official investigation concludes. However, they assured that justice will be served and the truth will come out soon.

As the video continues to circulate on YouTube and Facebook, viewers are reacting with comments such as “This is chilling,” “She is so heartless,” and “Thank God he survived.” Many are also warning people to be careful even with their closest loved ones, as betrayal sometimes comes from the most unexpected corners of life.
