Chaos and Fear Amidst the Festivities

Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as word spread that people were being pricked with needles. The attack led to widespread confusion and fear, with some suspects reportedly vandalizing property in the ensuing commotion. Videos of the incident have since gone viral on social media, showing the scale of the mayhem.

According to officials, at least 145 people were injured in these syringe attacks. In response, French police swiftly arrested 12 suspects at the scene. Authorities revealed that, prior to the event, posts on Snapchat and other social media platforms had hinted at plans to target women during the festival.

Serious Concerns Over Possible Drug Use

France’s Ministry of the Interior confirmed the attacks and stated that the matter is being taken very seriously. Some victims were hospitalized for toxicology tests to determine if they had been injected with substances like Rohypnol or GHB—commonly known as “date rape drugs”—which can incapacitate victims and are sometimes used in sexual assault crimes.

Officials have not yet clarified whether these attacks involved such drugs, but the Ministry emphasized the gravity of the situation and assured the public that investigations are ongoing.

Widespread Arrests and Ongoing Investigation

In addition to the syringe attack suspects, French police made a total of 371 arrests across the country in connection with various incidents during the festival, with around 90 of those in Paris alone.

The investigation began after reports from three initial victims—a 15-year-old girl, an 18-year-old man, and another individual—who said they felt unwell after being pricked by needles. Their cases prompted a broader inquiry as more victims came forward throughout the night.

Public Safety Concerns

The incident has raised serious concerns about public safety at large gatherings and the growing trend of needle attacks in Europe. Authorities are urging festival-goers and the general public to remain vigilant, and have promised to bring those responsible to justice.

As the investigation continues, officials are working to reassure citizens and ensure such incidents do not overshadow the spirit of celebration at future events.
