A Childhood of Struggles

Bharti’s journey began in a household marked by tragedy and hardship. Her father passed away when she was just a child, leaving her mother to fend for the family by working as a domestic helper. Bharti reminisced about watching her mother return home, exhausted and often bruised from the physical strain of her work.

“I remember waiting eagerly for my mother on Diwali,” Bharti shared. “She would bring home sweets given by her employers because we could never afford to buy them ourselves. We didn’t have money for fireworks or new clothes. The old clothes that my mother received from her employers were what I wore.”

Despite the challenges, Bharti’s mother refused to remarry, choosing instead to dedicate herself to her children’s upbringing. Bharti often accompanied her mother to work, witnessing firsthand the harsh treatment she endured. “People would scold her for not cleaning properly and give her leftover food. But that leftover food—koftas and dal makhani—felt like a feast to us,” Bharti revealed.

An Unwanted Child Who Became a Star

Bharti’s story took an unexpected turn even before her birth. She disclosed that her mother tried to abort her, fearing the burden of raising a third child. “My mother didn’t know she was pregnant until three months in. She tried everything—herbs, papaya, sitting in uncomfortable positions—but I was determined to come into this world,” Bharti said.

Born in her mother’s modest home, Bharti’s delivery was assisted by a midwife who charged ₹60 for her services. “I was a ₹60 baby,” Bharti joked, adding poignantly, “And today, I’ve gifted my mother a house worth ₹1 crore 60 lakh.”

Despite being initially unwanted, Bharti’s mother eventually showered her with love and affection, becoming her pillar of strength.
