When the Wheel of Time Turns: A Son’s Betrayal and the Bitter Harvest of Karma

Delhi, August 2025
When the wheel of time spins, it can turn empires to dust—and sometimes, it brings the consequences of our own actions right to our doorstep. This is the haunting story of Kailash, a man who built his palace of success on the tears of the very woman who gave him life, only to find himself abandoned at the same threshold years later.

A Mother’s Sacrifice, A Son’s Betrayal

Twenty years ago, in the bustling lanes of Delhi, Kailash seemed to have it all—a prestigious job at a multinational, a beautiful modern wife, Sunita, and a sweet five-year-old son, Rohan. But in the shadows of their perfect life was an old, blind woman: Kailash’s mother, Shanti Devi. Once, she had worked tirelessly, scrubbing floors so her son could study, sacrificing every comfort to give him a future.

As Kailash climbed the social ladder, his mother became a burden in his eyes. Sunita, born into wealth, resented her mother-in-law’s presence, complaining that Shanti’s blindness and frailty embarrassed her in front of friends. “We can’t even host a party because of her,” she would say. Gradually, Kailash’s heart hardened. He forgot the mother who had held his hand, fed him with her share of bread, and loved him unconditionally.

Only little Rohan, his grandson, brought light into Shanti Devi’s dark world. Every day after school, he would run to her, sharing stories and laughter, and she would forget her pain for a while.

The Unthinkable Decision

One day, Sunita insisted: “We can’t keep your mother here any longer. She needs to go to an old age home.” After some hesitation, Kailash agreed. He told his mother he was sending her on a pilgrimage, and with a forced smile, drove her to a rundown building on the city’s outskirts. “Many mothers like you live here, singing bhajans and praying,” he lied, leaving her in a small, damp room full of strangers and sorrow.

As the door closed, Shanti Devi cried out for her son, but her pleas vanished into cold, uncaring walls. Kailash returned home, telling Rohan that grandma had gone on a long pilgrimage. Months became years; Rohan’s memories of his grandmother faded into a distant haze.

The Wheel Turns

Twenty years passed. Kailash rose to become vice president of his company, bought a mansion, and filled his life with luxury—but lost his humanity along the way. Rohan, now a 25-year-old MBA graduate, followed in his father’s footsteps: ambitious, practical, emotionally distant. He married Priya, a modern, career-focused woman. For them, independence and freedom were everything.

Now retired and in failing health, Kailash found himself alone. Sunita was busy with her own social life, and Rohan saw his father as a burden. “Dad, we’ve found a great retirement home for you. You’ll have company, medical care, everything you need,” Rohan announced coldly. The word “retirement home” cut through Kailash like a knife. He begged to stay, but Rohan’s heart was unmoved.

Karma’s Bitter Harvest

The next morning, Rohan drove his father along the same deserted highway to the same crumbling old age home where Kailash had left his mother. As they arrived, Kailash recognized the rusted sign: “Apna Ghar Old Age Home.” He broke down, realizing the cruel symmetry of fate.

“I know everything, Dad,” Rohan said, his voice cold. “I found grandma’s letters and photos. I visited this place and heard how you abandoned her. That day, I decided to give you the same gift you gave your mother. You taught me that anything that becomes a burden should be removed from life. Today, you are my burden.”

Kailash collapsed to the ground, weeping and begging for mercy. But Rohan walked away, echoing his father’s own words from decades ago: “Just as you didn’t look back, neither will I. Goodbye, Dad.”

Left alone at the very gate where he once left his mother, Kailash finally understood the pain he had caused. But it was too late. There was no one left to forgive him—except his own tormented soul.

A Lesson for All Generations

This story is a harsh but true lesson: How we treat our parents is how we will be treated one day. It is the law of nature—the law of karma. Do not see your parents as a burden, but as a blessing whose shade protects your world.
