Twists in the Raghuvanshi Murder Case: Sister Srishti Now Under Legal Scrutiny for Controversial Social Media Post
Indore, India – July 2025: The shocking murder of 29-year-old transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Meghalaya has already gripped the nation with layers of deceit, betrayal, and an alleged murder-for-hire plot. His wife Sonam Raghuvanshi and her lover Raj Kushwaha are currently behind bars, along with several other accused individuals. But now, the case has taken a dramatic new turn.
Srishti Raghuvanshi, Raja’s sister and a well-known content creator active on social media, has found herself entangled in the legal web. Assam Police have filed a case against her under several serious sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 302—commonly associated with murder charges. This unexpected development has stunned followers of the case and added a layer of complexity to an already chilling saga.
Who is Srishti Raghuvanshi and What Did She Do?
Srishti Raghuvanshi gained attention earlier for her emotional posts during the initial days of her brother’s disappearance. Her social media accounts were filled with pleas for help and updates about Raja, making her a recognizable figure online. But in the aftermath of Raja’s death, she released a controversial video that claimed her brother was sacrificed in a ritualistic killing involving black magic and occult practices in Assam.
In the now-deleted post, Srishti alleged that her brother was taken to Guwahati under false pretenses and murdered as part of a human sacrifice connected to local superstitions. She specifically mentioned ritualistic practices and accused Sonam of using black magic to orchestrate the killing. The video rapidly went viral, sparking a storm of criticism and protests in Assam.
Legal Trouble Mounts for Srishti
Assam Police deemed her statements not only false but inflammatory, claiming they incited regional and religious tensions. According to law enforcement, Srishti’s comments insulted local customs and promoted dangerous stereotypes, which led to social unrest. The police received multiple complaints and, acting swiftly, registered a case against her under sections related to promoting enmity, spreading misinformation, and even Section 302 due to the perceived implication of murder conspiracy.
While the exact charges are still under scrutiny, officials have made it clear that Srishti must appear in Guwahati for interrogation. A formal notice has been served, and she may face arrest if she fails to cooperate.
The Social Media Storm and Public Reaction
The fallout was immediate. Protests erupted in various parts of Assam, with many calling for strict action against Srishti for allegedly defaming Assamese culture and religion. On social media, reactions were divided. Some sympathized with her emotional state, while others demanded accountability for spreading unverified and dangerous claims.
In response to the outrage, Srishti issued a public apology through her Instagram and Facebook accounts. She stated that she was in deep emotional distress following her brother’s murder and didn’t intend to hurt anyone’s sentiments. “I was broken, grieving, and angry,” she said, “and I let my emotions cloud my judgment. My intention was never to offend any community.”
Her brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, also stepped forward to defend her, claiming that the video was an emotional outburst rather than a deliberate attack on any culture or religion. “She’s a content creator, not a criminal,” Vipin said, “and we are in contact with the authorities to resolve this.”
However, Assam Police have responded firmly, stating that an apology does not negate the legal consequences of her actions. They reiterated that communal harmony is paramount and that spreading misinformation—even under emotional distress—can have serious implications.
Raja Raghuvanshi’s Murder: A Chilling Conspiracy
To understand the controversy surrounding Srishti, one must revisit the brutal murder of Raja Raghuvanshi. In May 2025, Raja and his newlywed wife Sonam went to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. On May 23, they checked out from a homestay and mysteriously disappeared. Days later, on June 2, Raja’s mutilated body was discovered in a ravine near Sohra.
What followed was an investigation that read like a crime thriller. The case, dubbed “Operation Honeymoon” by police, unraveled a calculated murder plot allegedly orchestrated by Sonam and her lover Raj Kushwaha. Police arrested both of them along with three contract killers—Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi. Sonam had reportedly paid them to eliminate Raja.
In addition, real estate businessman Shilom James and two other individuals were arrested for allegedly tampering with evidence. Police recovered bloodstained clothes, a knife used in the murder, and a country-made pistol—supposedly the backup plan in case the knife failed.
Digital Evidence and New Allegations
The investigation uncovered chats and voice recordings between Sonam and Raj, revealing a long-standing extramarital affair and multiple discussions about killing Raja. Sonam was arrested from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, while Raj and his associates were picked up from different locations.
Furthermore, Srishti and Vipin have claimed that Sonam remarried Raj Kushwaha shortly after Raja’s death. They allege she possessed two mangalsutras, one of which was not given by the Raghuvanshi family, implying a second secret marriage. Vipin has also called for polygraph and narco tests for Sonam, her brother Govind, and other family members.
Vipin believes the murder might not be just about money or infidelity but could have roots in occult practices. He has vowed to approach the Supreme Court to demand an impartial probe.
A Community on Edge: Fallout in Assam and Meghalaya
Srishti’s viral claim that Raja was a victim of human sacrifice has heightened communal and regional sensitivities in Northeast India. While there’s no official evidence supporting the claim, the suggestion was enough to ignite public anger. In some parts of Assam, the post was seen as an attack on the state’s cultural identity and religious customs.
Local leaders criticized the irresponsible use of social media to spread such unverified narratives. Assam Police emphasized that maintaining law and order is a priority and that no individual, no matter how emotional or influential, can be allowed to threaten social harmony.
Social Media and the Power of Words
This case has reignited the debate on social media ethics and responsibility. As a content creator with a significant following, Srishti’s words carried weight, and many believe she should have exercised more caution. Experts warn that even a single misleading post can spark widespread unrest, particularly when communal and cultural sentiments are involved.
The Raja Raghuvanshi case has now moved beyond being a tragic tale of a honeymoon gone wrong. It has become a microcosm of modern India’s struggles—between digital expression and real-world consequences, between faith and fear, and between grief and justice.
What Lies Ahead?
As of now, Srishti Raghuvanshi awaits interrogation by Assam Police, while the murder investigation continues in Meghalaya. With Akash and Anand—the two alleged contract killers—retracting their confessions before a magistrate, the prosecution faces new challenges. Still, police remain confident that the physical and digital evidence collected will hold up in court.
Meanwhile, the Raghuvanshi family remains determined to seek justice for Raja. Vipin continues to push for a broader investigation, alleging a conspiracy that extends beyond murder.
Whether or not Srishti’s claims hold any truth remains to be seen. But her case underscores a vital lesson: in an age where a single video can ignite nationwide controversy, words must be used wisely—especially when justice and harmony are at stake.
