Raja and Sonam were married on May 10, 2024. Shortly after their wedding, Raja proposed a trip to Kashmir, but unexpectedly, Sonam planned a trip to Meghalaya without consulting anyone. Before the trip, she transferred ₹9,50,000 from Raja under the pretext of travel expenses.

On May 20, the couple set off for Meghalaya. However, on May 23, when they were supposed to return, Raja’s contact suddenly ceased. When Raja’s family began to investigate, they discovered that the couple had checked out of their hotel, but their belongings remained behind.

Search and Discovery

Raja’s brother, Vipin, immediately contacted the police, but the search was hampered by bad weather. Finally, on June 2, Raja’s body was found in a deep gorge, showing multiple deep wounds. It was clear that Raja had been murdered, not that he had died in an accident.

Sonam’s Involvement

When the police searched for Sonam, she was missing. However, a local guide reported seeing Sonam and Raja with three unidentified individuals. Upon examining Sonam’s phone records, police found evidence of communication with suspicious numbers.

On June 8, Sonam surrendered to the police, revealing that she had conspired with her lover and his friends to murder Raja. She confessed that the plan was premeditated.

Evidence and Demands for Punishment

The police have gathered substantial evidence, including call details, CCTV footage, and confessions from the accused. Raja’s family is demanding that Sonam be sentenced to “Kala Pani,” as they believe that a death sentence would be a temporary solution, while “Kala Pani” would make her suffer every day for her crimes.

Raja’s father, Ashok Raghuvanshi, stated, “A hanging is just a moment. ‘Kala Pani’ would remind her of her crime with every breath she takes.”

Conclusion

The Raja Raghuvanshi case is not only a personal tragedy but also a significant social issue. Until Sonam receives appropriate punishment, Raja’s family will not find closure. This case highlights the demand for justice that extends beyond one family to the entire society.
