Controversy Surrounds Coaching Teacher Over Excise Inspector Claim
New Delhi, India – A coaching instructor, Aditya Ranjan, has come under public scrutiny after allegations surfaced that he falsely represented himself as an Excise Inspector, despite never formally joining the post. The issue has raised serious concerns about professional misrepresentation and public deception.
In a recent interview, Ranjan acknowledged that while he did qualify for the position of Excise Inspector through the competitive exam, he never formally joined the service. “I received my joining letter around September, but I was deeply involved with my offline teaching commitments at the time,” he stated. “I went through the required medical and physical tests, but I never officially took up the position.”
The controversy intensified after a Right to Information (RTI) query revealed that the Department had given him time until 28th February 2023 to join, but he failed to do so. According to the official response, Aditya Ranjan never formally joined the Excise Department.
A complaint was also filed at a police station in Mukherjee Nagar by an individual—reportedly named Siddharth—alleging that Ranjan had been falsely presenting himself as an Excise Inspector and using the title for promotional purposes, including on his personal vehicle, which bore the label “Government of India”.
Ranjan responded to these accusations by saying he had provided full documentation—including videos, photographs, and signed letters from senior officials—to the police and that the case has since been closed. “All the allegations made were answered in detail, and I submitted every piece of evidence,” he said.
However, questions remain. The interviewer pointed out that even now, Ranjan’s car still displays “Excise Inspector” and that he keeps an inspector’s cap, often seen in photos. When asked directly, Ranjan admitted, “Yes, I didn’t join. So, legally, I should not be using that title.”
Legal experts consulted during the case clarified that using government insignia, designations, or uniforms without officially holding a position could be considered impersonation or misrepresentation, especially if used in public or commercial settings.
In response, Ranjan said, “If it’s wrong, I’ll remove it. I didn’t use it to misuse any power. Many teachers who qualified for government posts and never joined still display such titles—it’s common, though maybe wrong. If it’s a tradition that has now become incorrect, I’m open to change.”
He added that he had focused more on teaching and building his educational career, rather than on formal service matters. “My main focus now is on teaching and bringing new concepts to students. That’s where my energy is,” he concluded.
The debate over Ranjan’s self-representation opens a wider discussion about accountability and professional integrity in the booming private coaching industry, where credibility is often tied to past government service or qualifications.
