Attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta: Suspect Rajesh Bhai Khimji Detained, Investigation Underway

A major incident has shaken Delhi after an attack on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a public hearing session. The accused, identified as 41-year-old Rajesh Bhai Khimji from Rajkot, Gujarat, was quickly apprehended by the police following the assault.

According to sources, Rajesh Bhai Khimji arrived at the Chief Minister’s public hearing with an application, reportedly seeking the release of a relative currently in jail. It is alleged that his frustrations led to the attack. Delhi Police are currently coordinating with Gujarat Police for more background information and to verify his claims.

Delhi BJP President Virendra Fazdewa confirmed that Rekha Gupta suffered a minor injury on her head after it struck a table during the incident. She is currently receiving medical treatment. The suspect is in custody at Delhi’s Civil Lines police station, where ongoing interrogation is being conducted.

Initial police investigations are exploring multiple angles. First, they are verifying the authenticity of the application Khimji presented, as well as his claim to be a dog lover, which has also been mentioned. Authorities are also investigating whether the accused had visited the Chief Minister’s residence during previous public hearings and, if so, whether any previous attack was planned but not carried out.

Senior police officials including Joint CP, DCP, and Additional DCP, are personally involved in the interrogation and investigation. The motive and exact circumstances behind the attack are still unclear, and all possibilities, including criminal background, are under scrutiny.

The incident has raised serious questions about security protocols during public hearings. All complainants are usually subject to strict screening and baggage checks before being admitted into the CM’s residence. Nevertheless, the attack took place while the Chief Minister was interacting directly with citizens.

Delhi’s Police Commissioner SPK Singh is overseeing the case and is in regular contact with all senior officers involved in the investigation. The Chief Secretary has also visited Rekha Gupta’s home in the wake of the attack.

Live reports from the suspect’s house in Rajkot show that police are continuing their investigation and background checks. Among the questions yet to be answered are Khimji’s true motive, whether he had any previous criminal record, and how he managed to gain access to the CM so easily.

Police investigations are ongoing and further information will be released once more details are available.
