Bihar’s Darbhanga District Shaken by Daylight Firing, Residents Question Police Inaction

Once again, the state of Bihar has been rocked by the sound of gunfire, this time in Darbhanga district. In a shocking incident, unidentified assailants opened indiscriminate fire at a residence in Bhidyahi village, under the jurisdiction of Kewti police station, spreading panic in the area.

According to reports, the attackers arrived on seven motorcycles, with around 16 masked men participating in the broad daylight assault. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the brazen attack has left the local community in fear.

Police recovered five spent cartridges and pellets from both the outer and inner premises of the targeted house, compiling a seizure list as part of their investigation. CCTV footage from the vicinity is being reviewed to identify the culprits, and authorities have assured that arrests will be made soon.

The victim, Najre Alam, expressed his frustration with the local police, stating that he had previously filed multiple written complaints about threats and past attacks, but no substantial action was ever taken. “Our applications are simply thrown in the trash by the officers here. Today, dozens of criminals arrived at our house and fired recklessly, yet the administration continues to sleep,” Najre Alam said. He also recounted previous attempts on his and his brother’s lives, as well as threats received in connection to their business partnership at the local bus stand.

Residents allege that criminals in the region operate with impunity, often under the protection of influential political leaders. They question whether the administration is under pressure or actively shielding these criminals. “Is the police waiting for our dead bodies before taking action?” Najre Alam asked, voicing concern for his and his brother’s safety.

Kewti police station’s ASI, Lukman Khan, confirmed that a formal complaint (FIR) will be registered and further investigation will proceed based on the victim’s application. He stated, “Upon receiving the information, we arrived at the scene and collected the evidence. Further action will be taken as per the findings.”

This incident is just the latest in a string of violent crimes across Bihar, including murders, robberies, and dacoities, raising serious questions about law and order in the state. Residents of Darbhanga and other districts are increasingly feeling unsafe, as criminals continue to carry out such attacks without fear.

The police have launched an investigation, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the suspects. However, the repeated incidents of gun violence have become a major challenge for law enforcement agencies in the region.

For now, the people of Darbhanga are left demanding answers and action from both the police and the state government, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. “Do ordinary citizens no longer have the right to live safely in Bihar?” they ask, as the cycle of violence continues.
