Congress MLA Vinesh Phogat Expresses Concern Over Rising Crime in Jind, Accuses Police of Negligence

For the first time after becoming a mother, Congress MLA Vinesh Phogat visited her constituency and met with party workers. During a meeting at the rest house in the town, Vinesh Phogat voiced strong concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. She stated that crimes in Jind have reached an alarming level.

Phogat highlighted a specific case from the Julana police station area, where villagers informed her that a woman’s husband had been missing since August 14. Taking immediate action, the MLA called the local Station House Officer (SHO) to raise the issue directly. She pointed out that people go missing in the area almost daily. She went on to allege that the police were negligent, even claiming that the SHO was drunk on duty. “There’s a jungle raj (lawlessness) here,” she said, “because the SHO asks ‘who are you to question me?’”

In heated discussions with both police officials and local residents, Phogat pressed for answers regarding the lack of action in missing person cases. She criticized the police department, stating, “If you are the police, then it’s your responsibility to take action. What have you done so far?”

Residents voiced their own frustration, claiming that rather than solving crimes, the police were treating them as suspects. Another case was raised where a girl was murdered in Indri, underlining the frequency and seriousness of crimes in the region. According to Phogat, within one month, around 25 to 30 people have lost their lives in Jind, and the village head (sarpanch) himself was killed.

When asked what action had been taken, Phogat said, “The Chief Minister has not acknowledged these matters. The responsible SHO should be suspended.” She emphasized that the law and order situation in Haryana is at its lowest point, with no accountability in the police force, “We are public servants, and so are you. If you can’t protect the public, who will?”

Vinesh Phogat’s visit and outspoken criticism have sparked conversations both online and in the community, putting pressure on local authorities to take swift and effective action to restore safety and trust among the people.
