How to Check New GST Rates and File Complaints

After the new GST rates came into effect on September 22, many consumers are confused about the actual prices of goods and whether shopkeepers are charging the correct amount. If you suspect you’ve been charged according to the old GST rates, don’t feel cheated—here’s what you can do.

How to Check the New GST Rates:

Check the MRP: Look at the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) printed on product packaging. If there are two MRPs, the lower one is correct.
Use the Official Website: If only one MRP is shown, visit wgs.in, a government portal. Here, you can select categories like food, snacks, home goods, electronics, and more to compare new and old GST rates and see your savings.

What to Do If Overcharged: If a shopkeeper charges you based on the old GST rates, you can take action:

The government has launched a special category for GST complaints on the National Consumer Helpline (NCH) portal consumerhelpline.gov.in.
You can file complaints against car dealers, e-commerce sites, or grocery stores that don’t pass on GST benefits.
Register on the portal using your mobile number and OTP, then select the complaint category, fill in the details, and attach supporting documents.

Other Ways to Complain:

Message or WhatsApp at 880091915.
Call the National Consumer Helpline at 1915.
Use 1800114000 for complaints.
You can also use the UMANG app to register complaints.

These steps ensure consumers get the full benefit of reduced GST rates and protect themselves from being overcharged. If you have any feedback, share it in the comments below!
