The incident took place earlier this week in Bihar, when Pradyuman, an auto driver, was reportedly attacked by the local station house officer (SHO) and his staff. According to the victim, the trouble began when he was unable to give way to the SHO’s vehicle due to heavy rain and traffic congestion. The SHO, who was in civilian clothes and allegedly under the influence of alcohol, overtook Pradyuman and began verbally abusing him.

Pradyuman recounted, “I didn’t recognize him as the SHO at first. He was in plain clothes and riding a Bullet motorcycle. When I finally gave way, he stopped my vehicle, abused me, and called for his staff. They dragged me out of the auto, beat me with sticks right there on the road, and then took me to the police station.”

Inside the station, the ordeal continued. “They asked about my caste. When I told them I was a Brahmin, the SHO said he hated Brahmins and forced me to lick spit as a form of humiliation. They beat me again and then made me apologize before letting me go,” Pradyuman said, his voice trembling as he recalled the events.

The incident came to light when Pradyuman approached local JD(U) MLA Sudarshan Kumar the following day. The legislator immediately contacted the Superintendent of Police (SP) and demanded strict action. Within hours, the SHO was suspended pending further investigation.

MLA Sudarshan Kumar commented, “For the past two months, the SHO had been coming to the station drunk and harassing both the public and his own staff. This incident is just the latest example of his abuse of power. I am glad action has been taken, but we must ensure justice for Pradyuman and prevent such incidents in the future.”

The case has sparked outrage across the region, with many questioning the prevalence of police brutality and caste discrimination within the force. Pradyuman has demanded a formal FIR and strict action against the suspended SHO.

As the investigation continues, the incident serves as a grim reminder of the challenges faced by ordinary citizens at the hands of those meant to protect them. The district police have assured that a thorough probe is underway and that justice will be delivered.
