India Welcomes Its 15th Vice President Amid Political Curiosity

Today, Rashtrapati Bhavan bore witness to a proud and historic moment as India welcomed its 15th Vice President. The grand ceremony was marked by the swearing-in of the new Vice President, CP Radhakrishnan. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office and secrecy to Radhakrishnan, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and several other prominent leaders from both the ruling and opposition parties.

While the ceremony followed all official protocols, the cameras frequently shifted their focus to a familiar and much-discussed face—former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. This was Dhankhar’s first public appearance since his surprising resignation on July 21, which had sparked a flurry of debates and speculations in political circles.

Dhankhar, who had been absent from both political and public life for nearly two months, was seen sitting alongside former Vice Presidents Venkaiah Naidu and Hamid Ansari. Though he wore a smile, his presence reignited old questions about the circumstances surrounding his resignation.

The controversy began on July 21, the opening day of the Parliament’s monsoon session. Dhankhar presided over the Rajya Sabha proceedings that day but soon after, citing health reasons, abruptly resigned from his post. This unexpected move stunned many, leading the opposition to question the timing and justification of his resignation. If his health issues were so severe, why did he chair the session that very day? Why not resign before the session began?

Amid these unanswered questions, Dhankhar vanished from public view, fueling further speculation on social media and among political analysts. While the opposition made an issue of his absence, the government dismissed it as a personal matter. Reports suggest that after his resignation, Dhankhar remained at his official residence, as he had not yet been allotted a new government bungalow.

Meanwhile, the election for the new Vice President took place. NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan won a decisive victory over INDIA bloc candidate B. Sudarshan Reddy, securing 452 votes against Reddy’s 300.

Today, as CP Radhakrishnan embarked on his new journey, Dhankhar’s return to the public eye added a memorable twist to the ceremony. It remains to be seen whether his appearance was merely a constitutional formality or if he is poised for a new political role in the near future.

For now, amidst all the questions and speculations, the nation has enthusiastically welcomed its new Vice President.
