Moradabad Scandal: Man Arrested After Viral Video Shows Him Assaulting Woman in Public – Police Action Sparks Debate
Recently, a shocking video from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, went viral on social media, sparking outrage across the country. The footage shows a man harassing a burqa-clad woman in public. In the video, the perpetrator approaches the woman from behind, behaves inappropriately, and quickly flees the scene, leaving the woman standing in shock.
Police Respond Swiftly
As the video gained traction online and attracted public anger, questions were raised about women’s safety in Uttar Pradesh, even under the Yogi Adityanath government’s claims of safety and security. The Moradabad police quickly swung into action, vowing to arrest the accused.
The latest update is that the man was tracked down by the police and was injured in a police encounter – he was shot in the leg and taken into custody. Following the incident, another old video of the same man surfaced, showing him misbehaving with a different woman at another location, suggesting that he may have been a repeat offender.
Police Statement
Senior police official Ranvijay Singh of Moradabad detailed the incident: “With increasing public awareness drives, our officers were patrolling local neighborhoods. During a patrol in the Nat Baba Temple area, officers noticed a suspicious man on a bike with a tampered license plate and no proper identification numbers. When the police tried to stop him, he attempted to escape. After a chase, the suspect’s bike slipped near Chandmari Ghat. Trapped and cornered, he attacked our team but was injured in the process. The accused, Adil (son of Pappu), admitted to harassing a woman the previous evening—the same incident seen in the viral video. He works as nursing staff in a local hospital and ran away out of fear of being caught.”
What the Police Recovered
The police also recovered a vehicle without a proper number plate and a weapon with live cartridges. An FIR has been registered, and the accused is currently hospitalized and under police custody. Investigations are ongoing.
Public Questions Remain
Despite the quick police response and arrest, the repeated occurrence of such incidents calls into question the effectiveness of government claims regarding women’s safety in Uttar Pradesh. Many are demanding more stringent preventive measures.
However, the police’s prompt action in this case has been appreciated by many citizens, who feel that immediate and strict steps are necessary to deter such offenders.
