A New Chapter in India’s History: CP Radhakrishnan Sworn In as 15th Vice President

India witnessed a significant moment as CP Radhakrishnan, former Governor of Maharashtra, was sworn in as the country’s 15th Vice President on Friday. The oath ceremony was administered by President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, attended by many prominent political leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and former Presidents and Vice Presidents.

Notably, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, was absent from the event, sparking controversy. While sources claim he was on a political visit to Gujarat, BJP leaders called it a boycott and criticized his absence from such an important constitutional event.

CP Radhakrishnan, a senior BJP leader and two-time MP from Tamil Nadu, emphasized his commitment to public service during his oath. PM Modi congratulated him, highlighting his dedication to empowering the poor and marginalized.

Radhakrishnan won the Vice Presidential election held on September 9, 2025, defeating opposition candidate Justice V Sudharsan Reddy by 152 votes. Out of 767 MPs who voted, Radhakrishnan received 452 votes while Reddy got 300, with 15 votes declared invalid. The victory showcased NDA’s unity.

After his win, Radhakrishnan resigned as Maharashtra’s Governor, with Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat taking additional charge of Maharashtra.

While the swearing-in has brought new hope, the controversy over Rahul Gandhi’s absence has heated up the political atmosphere. Is this just the beginning of a new political debate? Only time will tell.
