A tragic shooting in Bihar’s Nalanda district has left two teenagers dead and a community in turmoil. The violence erupted late Sunday night in Dumrawa village’s Paswan Tola, under the jurisdiction of Deepnagar police station, following a dispute between local children during a religious event.

Deadly Dispute Turns Violent

According to eyewitnesses and family members, the incident began while an Akhand Kirtan (continuous religious chanting) was underway in the village. During the gathering, a minor disagreement between children from Paswan Tola and another hamlet escalated. Tensions quickly boiled over, and members from the rival group reportedly returned armed, unleashing a hail of bullets on Paswan Tola.

The victims have been identified as Anu Kumari, a 15-year-old daughter of Om Prakash Paswan, and Himanshu Kumar, a 16-year-old son of Santosh Paswan. Both teenagers died on the spot, their lives cut short by senseless violence.

Community Outrage and Road Blockade

The double murder sent shockwaves through the community. As news spread, grieving families and villagers became enraged, especially when police insisted on sending the bodies for post-mortem examination. Frustrated and demanding swift justice, relatives and locals blocked the main road near Subhash Park and the hospital intersection, bringing traffic to a halt. They raised slogans against the administration, demanding immediate arrest of the killers and better security for the village.

One distraught family member said, “Both children were innocent. There was no proper medical attention at the hospital, and we want the culprits behind bars now.”

Police Response and Investigation

Deepnagar police, along with Sadar DSP Nurul Haque, rushed to the scene to control the situation and investigate the crime. DSP Haque confirmed that seven suspects have already been detained for questioning, and additional police forces have been deployed in the village to prevent further escalation.

“Our preliminary investigation points to a dispute among children as the trigger,” DSP Haque stated. “We have taken swift action, detaining several suspects, and will ensure all those involved are brought to justice soon.”

The police have sent the bodies for autopsy and assured the community that law and order is under control. Authorities are working to calm tensions and restore normalcy in the area.

Rising Concerns Over Rural Violence

The Nalanda shooting has once again raised serious concerns about the growing trend of violence in Bihar’s rural communities, especially over minor disputes. Incidents like this not only shatter families but also undermine the sense of safety across entire villages.

Community leaders and activists are calling for increased police vigilance, better conflict resolution mechanisms, and more youth engagement programs to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The deaths of Anu Kumari and Himanshu Kumar have left Dumrawa village grieving and searching for answers. As investigations continue and police promise strict action, the demand for justice and peace grows louder. This heartbreaking incident is a stark reminder of the urgent need to address violence at the grassroots level and protect the lives of the most vulnerable.
